Abstract

In social organizations, human behavior is very important when it comes to organizational success or failure. The school as a social system is not left out. Studies have shown that teachers wield more influence on students’ academic achievement. Out of all the teachers attributes, personality is outstanding. It is on this premise that this study examines the relevance of teacher’s personality on effective classroom management in secondary schools in Nigeria. Variables such as personality dimension, factors that influence teacher’s personality, effective classroom management techniques and the importance of teacher’s personality and effective classroom management were considered. The study revealed that effective classroom management depends greatly on teacher’s personality. No meaningful achievement of educational goals could be realized where teachers possess negative attitude towards their students and the subjects being taught. Effective managerial skills were also linked to teacher personality which accounts for the level of organization, charisma, and unique adjustment to classroom processes. The study opines that worthy personality traits with appropriate classroom management techniques, places the teacher on an edge to have a better control of the students and manage the classroom effectively. The result of this study has implication for teachers, school administrators and educational planners. Conclusion was drawn and suggestions were made.
