Abstract

This study investigated the resource situation of public Pre-primary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State.  The population comprised all the eighty-six (86) public primary schools in the LGA.  Out of these, the forty-five schools with pre-primary sections formed the sample.  Three research questions were raised to guide the study and analysis was done using percentages. The following findings were made: All the five Government guidelines on the Implementation of Pre-primary Education Policy were not implemented.  There was 52% distribution of pre-primary schools out of which 29% adhered to the benchmark of twenty-five (25) pupils per class, 16% had first aid units, none had provision for beds and 2% had recreational facilities.  All the other resources needed for the establishment of Early Child Care Centres were not available. Arising from the findings, it was recommended that Edo SUBEB should ensure that there are pre-primary sections, intensified monitoring and supervision as well as provision of adequate resources in all public pre-primary schools
